Oprah Lords Over White Folk, Talks Poop on XM

If it wasn't already totally evident that Oprah Winfrey can talk about anything for any length of time, her debut today on her own XM Radio channel just confirmed it. The talk-show queen gabbed with her best pal Gayle King (who called her, inexplicably, "Mommy") on what is nominally King's show on "Oprah & Friends," the satellite channel that launched today.

Among many, many other things, Oprah talked about her humble beginnings in Mississippi, and particularly about how her mother's highest aspiration for her was that she might end up cleaning white people's houses, because "they give away nice clothes." And then Oprah pointed out that now that she's Oprah, she has "all these white people" working for her, and that in fact there's only one black person on the staff. Way to turn the tables, girl.

Finally -- and this was just in the first fifteen minutes -- Oprah moved onto her most recent favorite topic, excrement. O assured Gayle that the reason she doesn't have children wasn't that she can't deal with poo, or "pooty," as the pair called it. For this -- and whatever follows -- is what XM is paying Oprah $55 million over the next three years.

Why is this acceptable???

This has been on my mind for a few days now. Why is it perfectly acceptable that in Oprahs graduation speech to Howard University she said "I used to work for the white man and the white men have to work for me." How is this ok? Why are we hearing nothing of this. What if I gave a speech and said the exact opposite? How much trouble would I be in. Would I be smattered all over the media like Imus was? Was what he said worse than what Oprah said? In my eyes, she said the same type of thing that he did. I am just getting so tired of our society and the need to walk on eggshells around every race but our own. Why is ok that we get put down constantly because we are white. I was raised in a very good household that taught me we are all the same. . .but comments like this makes you realize that not all of were raised the same and that racism is still very much alive and it is now turning more and more against those of us that are white. And what do we have to do. . .take it or risk being excuted in the eyes of the media and the world. Sucks huh?

Fishy Face!!!

Bumps wanted to get a lifevest so he could swim in the big kid pool all by himself, of course with me in with him though. So we went to White Elephant today and he picked out a lifevest and a pair of googles and all I heard about was the pool on the way home. We get home, get changed, get to the pool, and there CLOSED!!! For no reason. It was the hottest day of the week too. So aggrevating. So I took my upset child home and this is what we did instead out back!

Strawberry Picking!

We went to the orchards and picked strawberries today! We got some really good pictures, but I can't figure out how to turn them so they are going to remain sideways! Sorry!!!

My pirate ship boat!!!

Bumps is slightly (ok more than slightly) obsessed with pirates. So when we found out there was a pirate ship swimming pool available, he had to have it. And the best part is that he loves to play with it when there is no water in it! Can't beat that!
